Greg Pratt of Nexus

Greg Pratt, editor of Nexus, spoke with digital journalism students at Camosun College on November 10th.  Nexus, though not affiliated with Camosun, receives a small percentage of its budget from Camosun student fees and encourages any interested students to get involved in journalism.

Pratt says Nexus Newspaper has a really good reputation across Canada.
“There’s no topic we won’t touch.” Pratt believes hard-hitting journalism is important and is most excited about in depth articles submitted on important topics. The newspaper prides itself on their unique student voice, Pratt says.

Nexus recently published a story on a scandal about corruption involving the Canadian Federation of Students. The Federation has a history of threatening legal action against those speaking out against them.. Nexus’s separation from Camosun College allows it to write this story in an unbiased way, says Pratt. He also says Nexus is professional and is fair and honest in publishing only reasonable and rational stories.  “We don’t create controversy where there is no controversy.” “I know if we’re going to get sued or not,” Pratt jokes.

Nexus Newspaper Pratt says, has a real tangible impact. Andy Bryce, Digital Journalism instructor and organizer of the interview, agrees. He believes

in the papers excellence and says to his aspiring journalist students ,“It’s a great place to dip your toe in.”
